Excerpts from a Japanese Officer's Diary Stranded on Biak Island 1944
| A Japanese Captain who was
stranded on Biak Island kept a complete diary of the hardships which he encountered from
August 31, 1944 up until about December 7, 1944, when he was killed by an American patrol
shortly thereafter. The Japanese Captain was 27 years of age. One outstanding remark he made throughout the diary was this: "If only one friendly plane would come", but it never did. The diary was not translated in its entirety, therefore, a complete picture of his hardships is not possible. However, this translation of his diary will graphically illustrate the tenacity of the Oriental mind.
