Air-to-Air with Robert S. DeGroat

Robert S. DeGroat is currently a part-time aviation writer/photographer working with Flight Journal Magazine and Warbirds Worldwide. Prior to this he worked for E.A.A. Warbirds Magazine.  He has either  written or photographed for several other aviation publications as well. Robert has also done research for the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum and for the late aviation author Jeffrey L. Ethell.

The fourth B-25 ever built, and eventually General Hap Arnold's personal transport.  Now owned by AMPHA, NL28825B is being flown here by Dan Dameo.
This Cessna UC-78B "Bamboo Bomber" (N266C) is owned and flown by Larry Kelley.  It appears in the same markings it wore as an Advanced Trainer at Pampa Field, Texas, during W.W. II.
A legendary success in Korea, this F-86F (N186JC) wears a 1950's European scheme.  Owned by Steve Snyder, it is flown here by the late Bill Dodds.
This Stearman (N64604) is owned and flown by Bob Tullius.  It was used as a primary trainer during WW II, giving many Aviation Cadets their first taste of flying. 
Another superb restoration by the Denest family.  Here Mark Denest flies PT-19 (N55406) in typical blue-and-yellow A.A.F. colors.
The late Jeff Ethell flies the P-51D "Nervous Energy V" (N51WT), which is owned by Wallace Sanders.  Painted by Dan Caldarale, it carries the markings of the 325th Fighter Group, Fifteenth Air Force.
Painted to represent a "Sandy" aircraft from Vietnam, this AD-4N Skyraider (N2088V) is flown here by Rick Hegenberger.  The aircraft is now owned by Mike Schloss.
The cargo version of the immortal DC-3, this U.S. Navy R4D-6 (N293WM) is owned and flown by the National Warplane Museum.
Two Corsair's in formation, flown by father and son.  The late Bill Dodds flies Ed Shipley's FG-1D (N700G), while his son Derek flies the AMPHA FG-1D (NX83JC) "Sky Boss".
Vern Raburn's C-121A (N4947W) shows off its clean lines while adorned in it's original MATS markings.
A difficult formation made easy by good pilots, the late Bill Dodds flies the then AMPHA P-51D (N38JC) "Jackie C", while Ed Shipley maintains formation in his P-51D (N51ES) "Big Beautiful Doll".
The late Bill Dodds flies an FM-2 (N70637) in the W.W.II markings of U.S. Marine Joe Foss.  The Wildcat has since been sold to a new owner in New Zealand.
