Dick Hansen flies his Curtiss P-40E (NX9837A) the day after it came out of Dan Caldarale's paint shop. It wears the markings of Col. Robert Scott's "Old Exterminator".
Chuck Parnall pulls the EAA's deHavilland Vampire T Mk.35 (N11926) into formation with the T-28 camera ship. This early British-designed jet is in Zimbabwe Air Force markings.
This Boeing B-17G (N9563Z) "Fuddy Duddy", owned and flown by the National Warplane Museum, is the flagship of this fine organization.
Two North American T-28A Trojans on a flight out of Oshkosh. George Westmoreland leads in TL-792 (N28GW), with Rick Hegenberger in TL-272 (N272NA) off his right wing. Both T-28's have since been sold.
Tom Wood flies his beautiful North American F-86F Sabre (N86F) in Korean War era 51st Fighter Interceptor Wing markings, high over Oshkosh.
Any chance to fly with the 431st Air Demonstration Squadron, better know as the Canadian Snowbirds, is a special opportunity. Here is the Swept Delta Route formation during a 2-g turn back toward NAS Oceana, Virginia.
Charles Osborn's Republic P-47D (N4747P) when it was painted to represent "Big Ass Bird II" on an awful day for photography. The big fighter is now in the markings of "Tar Heel Hal".
This CAF replica Zero (N15797) AI-114 is flown for this sortie by Gordon McMahon. Flying with the Tora Gang is a guaranteed good time.
Two former enemies in close, peaceful formation: Chuck Scott flies the EAA's A-4B Skyhawk with Robert "Hoot" Gibson alongside in the EAA's Mig 21 wearing North Vietnam Air Force markings. It was the first time these aircraft had been photographed together.
Two blue-nosed Mustangs. Lee Lauderback flies the Stallion 51 TF-51 (N851D) "Crazy Horse", while Vlado Lenoch keeps station in his P-51D (N2151D) "Moonbeam McSwine". Stallion 51's contribution to Mustang flight safety over the last ten years is incalculable.
Comparing similar markings. The late Jeff Ethell flies Joe Scogna's P-51D (N510JS) "Baby Duck" in its early 353rd Fighter Group markings with three rows of black-and-yellow checks. Don Davidson brought his P-51D (N51EA) "Double Trouble too" along so we could compare the later eight-row nose markings. Don eventually sold his Mustang to a new owner in Switzerland.
The CAF Douglas A-26B Invader (N240P) "Spirit of Waco" closes on the B-25 camera ship. Most impressive.
